Intro to Artist Books: Flag Book Making
with Mackenzie Browning
Saturday, June 13
11:00am - 2:00pm
Queen's Square
StudioA hands-on introduction to artist books through the dynamic flag book structure.
Artist books are a work of art in book form, where the book itself is the artwork.
Participants will explore the creative possibilities of artist books through the elegant structure of the flag book. Guided by artist and printmaker, Mackenzie Browning, learn foundational book arts techniques including folding, scoring, and structural assembly while making your own colourful flag book to take home.
Mackenzie will introduce the vibrant history and design of artist books before guiding you through each step of the build. Discover how to transform paper, pattern, and sequence into a dynamic sculptural book form that expands and contracts like a cascade of flags.
This workshop is ideal for beginners as well as makers with some experience who want to deepen their understanding of artist book structures, experiment with form, and enjoy a relaxed and creative atmosphere. All materials are provided.
