2SLGBTQIA+-identifying individuals are invited to explore a different creative project each month in a fun and safe space.
A fun and casual program where together we will explore a new creative project with a guest artist each month. Registration is limited to 2SLGBTQIA+-identifying people in Waterloo Region.
This month we welcome back Guelph-based artist, Alisa McRonald who will lead participants through the creation of their own unique Fabric Collage! This workshop is about slowing down and doing some hand stitching by using scraps of fabric and trim as your inspiration. We will work on a fabric collage either on a piece of fabric that can be framed, hung or used as a patch, or directly onto your favourite garment (think jean jacket jazz-up). The best thing about this is it uses up all the little scraps that crafters are often left with. We will go over some different sewing techniques and some embroidery stitches too. You can use this time to play, tell a story with your work or just relax into some hand stitching
No experience is necessary and all materials are provided.
About the Instructor
Alisa McRonald is a contemporary textile artist creating work that celebrates fairytales, folklore and queerness with a vintage/kitsch/pop lens. She has exhibited nationally and internationally including at the Drey Gallery (2024), the Toronto Reference Library, the Interior Design Show Prototype Exhibition and the Contemporary Art Forum Kitchener and Area (CAFKA) (2023), Craft Ontario (2022) and the Drake Hotel in Toronto (2021). She loves to rescue other handmade items such as quilts and afghans from thrift shops and rummage sales. For her, these items represent many hours of skills and hands full of love. Alisa is passionate about using reclaimed textiles and has made a commitment to use as much as possible in her work (she's nearing 100%).
This program is offered in partnership with SPECTRUM, Waterloo Region's Rainbow Community Space.
