Large Print AreaPlay Chinese Mahjong—an exciting four-player tile game of strategy, skill, and a little luck.
Whether you are a beginner, or a seasoned player, this a casual meet-up connecting with friends new and old. Play alongside Min Cao, a Mahjong master, our team of volunteers, or assist new players to find their groove.
Chinese Mahjong is a traditional, four-player tile game of skill, strategy, and luck played with 144 tiles based on suits, winds, and dragons. Players draw and discard tiles in a counterclockwise order to be the first to form a winning hand of four sets and one pair.
Novice players are encouraged to attend Second Saturday: Intro to Mahjong to learn the basics of the game.
About the facilitator
Min Cao is a Program & Event Specialist at Waterloo Public Library with more than 10 years of experience serving Ontario’s public library communities, including previously working as a Supervisor with the Mississauga Library System.
Originally from Shanghai, China, Min is passionate about sharing Chinese culture and building community connections through library programs. Over the past several years, she has introduced Chinese/American Mahjong to diverse communities through library and community initiatives, creating welcoming, beginner-friendly environments where people of all ages and backgrounds can learn, connect, and enjoy this traditional game.
Min developed Waterloo Public Library’s Majestic Tiles (Mahjong) Club, where she has helped hundreds of participants discover Chinese/American Mahjong. She believes Mahjong is more than a game—it encourages social connection, lifelong learning, and mental engagement.
Min is excited to partner with Cambridge Public Library to introduce Chinese/American Mahjong to the community and welcome new players to experience this timeless tradition.
