Social Robotics to Support Health and Wellbeing.
We will first introduce the concept of "social robots" and how they differ from other types. We'll examine how robots can be designed for interactions with people and outline opportunities for use of social robots in health and wellbeing applications such as mental health supports, therapies for disabled needs, and independant living among older adults.
About Dr. Kerstin Dautenhahn
Professor Kerstin Dautenhahn is the Canada 150 Research Chair in Intelligent Robotics and has pioneered research in social robotics, human-robot interaction, and assistive robotics.
In the RoboHub, Professor Dautenhahn will investigate the development of companion robots. Companion robots are intelligent and autonomous robots that are able to assist people with needs such as performing useful tasks, but are doing so in a manner that is socially acceptable and trustworthy. The goal is to develop social and intelligent companion robots that can support people in daily living activities or assist in therapeutic or education application contexts.
