Join Alisa in the Preston Gallery for an evening of fabric collage and embroidery.
This workshop is all about slowing down and sinking into the joy of hand stitching, using fabric scraps, trims, and remnants as your starting point. Together, we’ll explore creative stitching and simple embroidery techniques to build layered, expressive fabric collages.
You’ll work either on a piece of fabric that can be framed, hung, or used as a patch—or stitch directly onto a favourite garment you bring from home (think: jazzed-up jean jackets and lovingly embellished clothes). We’ll cover a variety of hand-sewing methods and embroidery stitches, focusing on how line, texture, and mark-making can add meaning and personality to your work.
This workshop is perfect for using up those tiny, precious scraps that tend to linger in sewing rooms. You’re invited to play, experiment, tell a story through thread, or simply relax into the meditative rhythm of needle and cloth.
This workshop is presented as part of Belonging: Artist in Residence. All materials are provided, no experience necessary.
Belonging Artist in Residence is made possible through the generous support of the Keith and Winifred Shantz Fund for the Arts held at the Waterloo Region Community Foundation.
