Join Alisa in the Preston Gallery and try your hand at punch needle.
Discover the satisfying rhythm of punch needle in this hands-on, beginner-friendly class focused on colour, shape, and playful mark-making. Using simple forms—think circles, hearts, stripes, stars, and anything else you can dream up—you’ll learn the basics of hand punch needling while creating a loopy textile artwork.
We’ll work with embroidery hoops and burlap as our base, exploring how yarn, colour combinations, and repeated shapes can build texture and visual interest. This class is less about perfection and more about process, experimentation, and letting intuition guide your design.
No experience necessary—just a love of colour, texture, and tactile making. Leave with a finished (or nearly finished!) punch needle piece and the skills to keep looping long after the class ends.
This workshop is presented as part of Belonging: Artist in Residence. All materials are provided, no experience necessary.
Belonging Artist in Residence is made possible through the generous support of the Keith and Winifred Shantz Fund for the Arts held at the Waterloo Region Community Foundation.
