Social isolation and loneliness affect people of all ages; one in six people globally feel lonely. In Canada, research finds that as many as 41 per cent of Canadians aged 50 years and older are at risk of social isolation and up to 58 per cent have experienced loneliness. Learn about this global health priority and ways to combat social isolation and loneliness.
About the Presenter
Kim Cusimano, Age Friendly Coordinator, City of Cambridge. Working alongside and in support of older adults for more than 25 years in community, retirement and long term care, Kim Cusimano embraces the opportunity to learn from older adults, to share information and to action initiatives in support of an Age Friendly communities. Kim is an Education Facilitator with the Schlegel-UW Research Institute for Aging, Parks and Recreation Ontario Principles of Healthy Aging trainer and member of the Elder Abuse Prevention Council. Kim recently completed her term with The Elliott Community Board of Trustees and was Chair of the Alzheimer Society of Waterloo Wellington. Currently, the City of Cambridge’s Age Friendly Coordinator, Kim is focused on the development, implementation and evaluation of an Age Friendly Community Plan and action areas including ageism, intergenerational connections and social prescribing.
