Our friends from the University of Waterloo bring science to the Old Post Office.
Tuesday, September 23: Data Defender Dash
Join the ESQ Team in this fun and engaging LEGO Robotics STEAM workshop focused on online safety! Using LEGO Spike Prime kits, participants will build and program a drivable robot using block coding. Their robot will navigate an obstacle course while they apply their knowledge of cyber-attacks and online safety. Get ready for an exciting night of learning, collaborating, playing games, and having fun!
Tuesday, October 21: X-Citing X-Rays
In this machine learning and animal health mash-up, you will explore X-rays and their usefulness in industries like scientific research, security, and healthcare. Participants will also learn some ways X-ray machines are used in veterinary medicine to diagnose medical issues in animals. Participants will act as veterinary radiologists, training an “AI” to recognize and identify ingested foreign bodies in dogs. Lastly, they will create an X-ray-themed craft based on a fish or a polar bear.
Tuesday, November 18: A Bit of AI
In this exciting new Micro:bit coding activity, participants will design 5–7 unique actions that Micro:bits' built-in AI will learn to recognize—then watch as it picks up on trends and responds like a pro. Along the way, we’ll dive into the exciting world of artificial intelligence (AI), discover how to train your own AI models, and experiment with Micro:bits to see what cool things you can make them do!
