Learn to Love Your Body! With Fran Garton
Ages 18+
Diet culture is everywhere and it’s affecting our youth.
We are constantly bombarded with media messages telling us there is something wrong with our bodies. How many times have you looked in the mirror and wanted to change something about the way you look?
Did you know:
- There is a correlation between body image and mental health.
- 53% of 13 year old girls are “unhappy with their bodies” and this rises to 73% by age 17.
- 59% of teenage girls felt pressure to conform to unrealistic expectations on social media of ideal body image.
- Diet culture has become our dominant culture (without us even noticing) which worships thinness and equates it with health and moral virtue.
- The idea that we need to look a certain way to be valued has permeated our culture and it’s time that we shift our attitudes and open the conversation on this topic.
In this presentation, we will address:
- Definition of body image and body acceptance.
- Things that influence body image.
- The impact of negative concepts of body image on mental health.
- Strategies to cultivate body acceptance and improve body image.
- Answer your questions.
- Participants will walk away with concrete tools they can implement and teach to others that can help them boost body image, acceptance, and self-worth.
