Sit down with your favourite cuppa tea and join us for an afternoon steeped in rich history and unforgettable characters.
Historical fiction has always been a captivating genre to read; it makes us consider events of the past and how they have shaped our world today. It also allows authors to shed light on women’s role in history, which has often been overlooked. Join us on Sunday, November 7, at 2:00 pm as we talk about books featuring fierce independent women whose stories you may not have known. Kayleigh Platz will be talking to authors AJ Pearce (Yours Cheerfully), Kristin Beck (Courage, My Love), and Jennifer Robson (Our Darkest Night).
Q&A to follow, so please come prepared with some questions.
If you are interested in purchasing Jennifer, Kristin, or AJ’s books, please check out A Different Drummer Books website for book ordering information

Kristin Beck first learned about World War II from her grandmother, who served as a Canadian army nurse, fell in love with an American soldier in Belgium, and married him shortly after VE Day. Kristin thus grew up hearing stories about the war, and has been captivated by the often unsung roles of women in history ever since. A former teacher, she holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Washington and a Master’s in Teaching from Western Washington University. Kristin lives in the Pacific Northwest with her husband and children. This is her first novel.
AJ Pearce grew up in Hampshire, England. She studied at the University of Sussex and Northwestern University. A chance discovery of a 1939 women’s magazine became the inspiration for her international bestseller, Dear Mrs. Bird, the first novel in The Emmy Lake Chronicles series. She lives in the south of England.
Jennifer Robson is the internationally bestselling author of The Gown, Somewhere in France, After the War Is Over, Moonlight Over Paris, and Goodnight from London. She studied French literature and Modern History as an undergraduate at King’s University College at Western University, then attended Saint Antony’s College at the University of Oxford, where she obtained her doctorate in British economic and social history. While at Oxford, she was a Commonwealth Scholar and SSHRC Doctoral Fellow. Jennifer lives in Toronto with her husband and children.
