Idea Exchange Old Post Office Makerspace is excited to offer three separate Laser Cutter workshops.
You will come away with a firm understanding of how to create a variety of signs styles and types that can be made using our Laser Cutter. You can take all three workshops or only one depending on your current skill level.
You will leave with either a finished file or the skills and confidence needed to make your own signs and other finished products. Completed files can then be emailed to oporeception@ideaexchange.org to be created, or the member can book a time in the space and see the project come to life in person.
May 1st - The first of our workshop series will be for those who have no previous experience with the laser cutter or using 2D drawing software. We will create a basic sign that is elegant and simple. Skills covered will be opening a new document, drawing basic shapes, using proper line widths, and adding simple text.
May 8th – This intermediate workshop will build upon the previous one but will introduce a few new concepts that will allow the member to make more complex signs. In this workshop, you will learn raster engraving and vector etching.
May 15th - This final sign workshop will again build on the previous skill learned and introduce layering multiple images together, the knife tool, and welding. We will also look at tracing a little more in depth, which taken all together, will allow you to create as complex signs as you can envision.
This program is delivered through Zoom. You only need to register once per viewing device.
Cost: Free
