Empowering women to become tomorrow’s leaders by building skills in board governance, networking, and community-driven decision making for lasting impact.

Through this comprehensive training, participants will learn how to navigate the responsibilities of being a nonprofit board member. We focus on practical, hands-on skills including team building, problem-solving, and decision-making. You will also learn how to connect and collaborate effectively within leadership settings; helping you establish strong networks and expand your professional opportunities. Whether you're looking to make your voice heard in your community or advance your career, Focus on Leadership equips you with the essential tools to build a powerful leadership presence.

This program is open to all women who are interested in pursuing leadership opportunities and making meaningful contributions to their communities. We believe in fostering diversity in leadership and providing access to opportunities that will help you thrive.

Who Should Join

  • Women interested in joining nonprofit boards or leadership roles
  • Women looking to develop their professional skills and expand their networks
  • Community-minded individuals who want to make a positive impact in their communities
  • Those seeking to gain a deeper understanding of governance, teamwork, and community engagement

About the Facilitator

Abiha Syed Abiha Syed, the facilitator for this program, brings over 15 years of experience in community engagement and leadership. As the Community Engagement Coordinator at Immigration Partnership and a co-founder and past Chair of Muslim Women of Cambridge, Abiha has a deep understanding of the importance of inclusive leadership and community-driven change.

Abiha’s passion for building relationships, bridging gaps, and empowering women from diverse backgrounds has been the driving force behind her involvement in various community initiatives. She has dedicated her career to fostering equity, diversity, and inclusion in the Waterloo Region, using her platform to amplify marginalized voices and advocate for positive change.

In 2017, Abiha co-founded Muslim Women of Cambridge with a mission to support and empower Muslim women in the community. Under her leadership, the organization has made significant strides in promoting inclusivity and respect for diversity. Abiha’s focus on allyship and her commitment to empowering women from all walks of life makes her an ideal facilitator for this program.

Abiha believes in creating spaces where diverse voices are heard and valued, and she is passionate about helping women become the leaders they were always meant to be. Through her work, she has inspired countless women to take charge of their futures and pursue leadership opportunities that can change their lives and their communities for the better.

Why This Program Matters

At Focus for Ethnic Women (FEW), we are dedicated to empowering racialized women and providing the resources and support needed to help them succeed. As an organization, our mission is to create opportunities for women to develop skills, connect with others, and achieve their full potential. We believe that diverse leadership is essential for creating stronger, more inclusive communities, and this program aligns with our commitment to fostering equity and inclusion across all sectors.

By offering Focus on Leadership, we aim to equip women with the skills and confidence to take on leadership roles within nonprofits and beyond. This program is part of our ongoing effort to build a more equitable society, where women from all backgrounds can lead, innovate, and inspire.

If you're ready to develop your leadership skills, expand your network, and make a real difference in your community, Focus on Leadership is the program for you.
