About our Speaker

Cait will tell us about her experience transitioning from male to female when she was 26 and what she lost, what she gained, the battles she waged, and those yet to come. She will also answer any questions you may have about the 2SLGBTQ+ community here in Waterloo Region, including what all those acronyms mean! Cait is an activist educator, retiree, translator, mother, grandmother, and one of those Marxists your mother warned you about.  She was assigned male at birth but identified as female since she was four years old.  Even though she lost everything - family, friends, job, home - when she transitioned, it was the best choice she ever made because she can be herself.  And that is HUGE!  She served in the Canadian Armed Forces but was discharged once they found out she was transgender.  She was President of and continues to work with Spectrum Waterloo for many years, an organization that serves, affirms, and supports the well-being of 2SLGBTQ+ people in the Waterloo Region.
