Practical tips for discussing periods openly with tweens and teens.
Talking about periods doesn’t have to be awkward.
How to Talk to Kids About Periods is designed for adults who want up-to-date info on periods, products, and how to talk about a subject that for some, maybe a little uncomfortable. The presentation includes tips and tricks for normalizing period talk, the range of available products and how to use them, what a typical tween period looks like (and how to know when it's coming), and some FAQs we receive from kids in our Periods 101 presentation.
Ages 9–14 can attend Periods 101 at the same time, a youth-focused workshop happening in a separate room. Created in collaboration with medical experts, Periods 101 discusses period basics, different products available and how to tackle period stigma. The session will also include information on hormones, the menstrual cycle and common period myths. Demo products will be available for participants to look at and feel.
About the Presenter
The Period Purse (TPP) is Canada’s first registered charity dedicated to tackling period poverty. Headquartered in Toronto, TPP strives to create menstrual equity by ensuring sustainable access to period products for all and by ending the stigma associated with periods through education and advocacy.
